Finishing off painting inside the turntable, and the band of Engineers gathered to work out how on earth the bridge was built
Charlie came to help so we put him in a suitable small section of the turntable to clean and paint |
Alessandra from English Heritage came to help so she was also given a section of the turntable to clean and paint |
Alessandra was also small enough to fit inside |
Geoff overseeing Alessandra |
Mike Bone preferred to work on the turntable, bit more space |
Graham Laucht came all the way from Birmingham where he had been doing research into Brunel. Our fame is spreading. He and David Greenfield were able to compare notes. |
Bob and Martyn did some measuring and tried to work out thicknesses of metal |
George Waite came along and demonstrated his grandfather's rivet hammer, and talked about his experiences as a riveter. We all learnt many tricks of the trade. He also discussed how the bridge would have been made. A magical time. |
John Ditchfield demonstrated his model as to how he thought the top rounded section was made |

This time graduate engineers came to help us measure the bridge. I finished the painting since it was a sunny day

Geoff had to stand still with a pole too |
Bob's turn to hold the pole |
Geoff used his endoscope to peer into the bridge |
All will be revealed in due course |
John Cook came along to help survey too |
The engineers were treated to a swing of the bridge |
